Applied Information Systems (AIS) and Business Logic Corporation (BLC) announced today that they have formed a partnership to provide shrink-wrapped applications for the imminent Linux retail marketplace. Their first collaborative effort is the Standard Edition of the XESS Spreadsheet for the Linux desktop.
The XESS Spreadsheet is featured this week in the AIS booth at the Fifth Annual Linux Expo in Raleigh, NC.
"The expertise and experience that Business Logic has in distribution and the retail market provides a strong complement to our high-quality software applications," explained Arthur Coston, president of AIS. "Together we will bring the Linux applications consumers want to the retail market."
"We see the application marketplace for Linux as the next growth area," said Paresh Patel, president of Business Logic Corporation. "We have chosen to work with AIS for their long standing expertise in Linux development and for the quality of the Xess Spreadsheet which is far superior to any competitor."
XESS is the most powerful enterprise spreadsheet, with versions for most Linux, UNIX, OpenVMS, and Windows NT systems. It provides advanced features in a native X Window environment, while maintaining a high level of compatibility with the Excel and Lotus spreadsheet products. The optional xsBasic Macro Add-in allows the development of enhancements and applications using a familiar object-oriented version of Basic.
Founded in 1993, Business Logic Corporation is a privately held developer and publisher of financial, legal, utility, and entertainment software for corporate, retail, and online markets.
Computer users worldwide recognize Business Logic Corporation for the quality software products it markets in over 40 countries. In 1998, BLC formed an alliance with Enteractive Distribution Company to expand product distribution and availability in North America, resulting in expansion of its product availability through major distributors to 14,000 dealers and through 850 independent software vendors (ISVs).
Applied Information Systems, headquartered in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is a 26-year-old supplier of software products and solutions. AIS is a technology leader in network-enabled spreadsheet solutions for end-users, corporate environments, system integrators, and third-party developers. Its XESS spreadsheet technology is used daily in the most challenging applications -- designing automobiles and airplanes, monitoring spacecraft, deploying troops, controlling the power grid, and trading securities.
